Our story begins with our great grandfather, a skilled blacksmith in the hills of Carter County, who owned and worked a grist mill powered by the natural springs on their land. The millrace — a water channel that directed water from the spring to the mill's wheel—was the heart of the operation. Because of the consistency, steadfastness, and dependability of the millrace, the wheel was able to continue to turn year after year. It’s this legacy of precision, skill, and dependability that drives us today for your family.
A millrace, historically, was used to channel water to the mill’s wheel, providing the power needed to grind grain, saw wood, and perform countless other tasks essential to community growth.
